Renovation Kicks Off for Vestide’s City Homes

Twenty-six city homes owned by Vestide, the student housing branch of Woonbedrijf, are getting a much-needed upgrade in comfort and sustainability. Most of these buildings are quite old and haven’t had many eco-friendly improvements yet—but that’s about to change. After lots of planning, we’re starting work on the first property on Prins Hendrikstraat in Eindhoven. The renovations will be carried out by Talen Vastgoedonderhoud.

These 26 homes, dotted around Eindhoven, are getting a full makeover. The sustainable upgrades will make living there much nicer for students.

What’s happening?

• Better insulation (HR++ glass and roof insulation), improving energy ratings from D to A++ or A

• Solar panels and a hybrid heat pump

• New kitchens, bathrooms and toilets

• Improved fire safety and upgraded ventilation

We’re aiming to have all 26 homes ready for the future within five years.

Students are fully involved

We’ve had chats around the kitchen table to hear what students want. We also shared the plans during pizza nights at our office. So students know what’s coming and aren’t shy about asking tough questions. Olivier, house elder at Prins Hendrikstraat, said:

"It’s great that you’re involving us like this. And hey, free pizza’s always a win!"

Teamwork makes it happen

Marcel Copier, renovation coordinator at Woonbedrijf, is in charge of the collaboration and contracts. Marcel says:

"Working together like this leads to great projects, happy students, and proud teams at Talen and Woonbedrijf—1 + 1 = 3!"

Roy Donker, construction supervisor at Talen, knows some of these student homes inside out by now. He makes sure everything’s done safely, on time, and to a high standard. It took a lot of coordination to get everyone on the same page. Roy says:

"Bit by bit, we’ve become a proper team. We complement each other and know what to expect from one another."

Raymond van Krieken is the project manager from Sellenra Property Development. He’s responsible for the overall project, the right approach, and smooth teamwork.
